Dedicated to finding the perfect home for every homeless Airedale

ROXY

After having to put down my Airedale Rowdy last December (2006), I was devastated and knew that I wanted another Airedale soon. I decided to adopt one from the Rescue. Although I had owned Airedales and/or been around them all my life, Roxy (formerly Comet) was nothing like any Airedale I'd ever encountered. Roxy was scared to death of people, didn't care for other dogs (except other Airedales), and barely wagged her tail when I first got her. Eventually, I took the plunge and got her a buddy since I realized she was terribly lonely – she's inseparable from Dexter (a feisty little male Scottish Terrier). With Dexter's help, she is almost completely normal. She comes on command, sits, begs, socializes with anyone and everyone, and even wags her tail probably 90% of the time. Everything was new in her world but she adjusted well and learned that a swimming pool (especially the little kiddie pool mom puts out in the summer) is the greatest thing in the world.

Shortly after getting her (when she was still in her 'adjusting' period) in June she got out of the house (she's sneaky, like any good Airedale knows how to be). 2 agonizing days later and only a few scattered sightings of her, in a who–knows–it–could–work plan, Phoebe (my parents' rescue Airedale) found Roxy. It was a miracle – and she seemed to figure out that it was a big bad world out there. Ever since she has shown small changes every week that she's still got that Airedale spunk.

Her newest adventures include unstuffing Christmas stockings (along with ripping dog toys apart with Dexter), playing ceaselessly with her doggie friends at the dog park, sneaking up and sleeping on the bed, and hoarding toys from Dexter. She's one of the sweetest Airedales I've met and been an invaluable addition to the family. She's helped grouchy Phoebe come out of her senior citizen shell (she's 10) and even runs around playing with 2 miniature poodles and 2 Scotties following close behind. Although getting used to a shy Airedale wasn't an easy task, she's grown so quickly into the typical Airedale personality and filled our home with laughs, energy, and the unique companionship you get with an Airedale.

Thank you all at the Rescue for all you've done and bringing Roxy into my home.
