Dedicated to finding the perfect home for every homeless Airedale

ABBY and NICKY

Hi, Sidney,

I thought you would be interested in this. Quite some time ago, I ordered a DNA kit from Orvis so we would get some hints as to Abby's parentage. We recently received a lovely certificate that showed only one recognizable breed in her, which was an Italian Greyhound!

We were quite disappointed that MMI Genomics only recognized 38 breeds, none of which was an Airedale, although I suppose that is because Airedales are known to be a mix of Otterhounds and some sort of terrier and who knows what else. What we do know is that she isn't a Doberman, German Shepherd, German Shorthaired or Rottweiler, all of which were suspect because of her coloring. Italian Greyhounds aren't very large dogs, so that little bit of DNA may have been way back in her lineage, but it may help explain her quickness and the Airedale in her explains her phenomenal digging ability! I guess she is an Italian-American Airehound! What ever she is, she has turned into quite a character and we love her. She's so cute early in the morning when she is waiting for me to get up, thumping her tail like crazy, and then she goes out to greet Nicky and Molly, who are usually sleeping in the carport. They all wag at one another and touch noses and then mosey off together in a little pack. Our Babies!

Nick is completely relaxed around Tom now and loves to be rubbed and loved on. He seems to have a really sweet disposition--Nicky, not necessarily Tom! After Nick wrestles the rope toy away from Molly (or she just lets him take it), he struts all the way around the back of the yard with it dangling from his mouth. What he really enjoys is having me grab an end and pull, but I'm not able to play tug with him for very long because he is too strong and I'm afraid I'll pull my back out and will have to drag myself back to the house. Bet they would all be amazed by that!
