BJ's Story
8/11/2004
There have been big changes for BJ, and for all of us too.
Who'd of thought that BJ would go from being a mountain dog,
to a desert dog, to now an Ozarks dog? He's had quite a change
of scenery in his young life! Our family moved from Tucson to
Springfield, Missouri, at the end of July. BJ has done remarkably well.
My husband and BJ drove out here about 3 weeks ago. Steve said that
BJ did very well in the car. They spent the night in Tucumcari, NM,
at a dog friendly hotel, and BJ had no problems whatsoever. Once
they arrived in MO, my husband and BJ then stayed with his parents
while waiting for our new home to close, and BJ gained yet another
fan. My mother-in-law had never met BJ before he came to stay at
her house. According to my mother-in-law BJ is the sweetest dog
she's ever met! BJ even won over my father-in-law, who is not an
animal person at all. By the end of my husband's stay with his
parents, BJ was sleeping on the couch in their living room and
getting daily treats from Grandpa. When my husband finally moved
into our new house, BJ's grandma was so sad to see him leave
that she has even had him spend the night a couple of times since
then because she missed him so much!
My daughter and other dog Grace made the trek out here about 10
days ago. It was so nice to see the pups together again once
we arrived. BJ and Grace were just so happy to see each other.
I was worried about the trauma the move might cause both of our
dogs, but they have come through it like champs. They really
enjoy the ample grass here, and have so many new things to see,
smell, and hear. BJ heard his first train horn last week, and
he started howling right along with the train. That was pretty
funny. BJ also gets a kick out of seeing airplanes overhead.
Even though he saw and heard planes in Tucson, for some reason,
he likes to howl at the airplanes here when he sees them.

I still haven't gotten my digital camera so I can't send you
any photos via the web of our beloved BJ dog.
I just wanted to let you know that he is adjusting very well to
his new life in Missouri. He has been such a blessing. I was
just thinking last night how odd it was the way in which he came
into our lives (via an internet picture, and the subsequent road
trip from Tucson to Prescott in a rented SUV), and how happy we
are that he is our dog and we are his people! BJ is still such
a lover and very happy and funny too. We just took him to get
groomed last week, and the groomers here just raved about how
he was such a good and sweet dog. When we first got BJ he was
very reticient to have his head touched in any manner, and would
always try to duck away if we wanted to pat him on the head.
Just here lately I've noticed that he doesn't have any fears
of being patted on the head, or having his ears scratched like he used to.
Every morning when I get up BJ makes his mad dash for the door outside.
He likes the Missouri weather so far. We tease now that he is an Ozarks dog!
He loves to be outside in the mornings and doesn't want to come back in right away.
He's our sentry dog too. We have a wood fence in our yard, and when he goes
outside, he will walk the entire perimeter without fail just to investigate.
He is a fabulous dog and we love him so much. We can't imagine what our
lives would be like without him.
Well, I just wanted to give you an update. Hope you are well.
I am so glad there are people like you who work so hard to give
these wonderful dogs new lives.
Take care.

I *finally* got some pictures of BJ on disc.
He kept turning his head and I was only able to get a couple of his face! Hope you have a very happy holiday!
