Wiggins, a 10 year old female, Walter (age unknown) obtained through rescue, and Abbey, a 3 year old female, obtained through rescue. Wiggins was our first Airedale. She came to us as a puppy from Stone Ridge and Janet Johnson Framke. When she was about 4 years old we decided that she needed a companion and put out the word for a male. Walter came to us after being picked up in rural Illinois and was close to being put down in a shelter. He was a scrawny 75 pounds, dirty and very wild. He has come a long way since that day we brought him home, now weighing in at 110 pounds (he is one of the biggest Airedales anyone has ever seen!) and is much better behaved. He and Wiggins have gotten along famously from the very beginning (as long as he remembers that Wiggins is the Queen of the domain!). We acquired Abbey through the airedale rescue website. She was being fostered with Mary Gade's son in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and had been given up by a family who couldn't handle her. She is a bundle of energy still, and made us remember what having a young airedale in the house is all about. All three have brought so much joy to our lives that I can't imagine what it would be like without them.

My block this year depicts Abbey with a large pumpkin pie which she enjoyed eating 2 Thanksgiving's ago. I had baked all of my pies the night before and had been keeping a close eye on them as they cooled. I turned my back for a few seconds and she took a big bite out of one of them. It didn't slow me down a bit, I just cut that section of the pie off and served it along with the rest of them the next day! This past Thanksgiving she got an unbaked apple pie off of the counter and managed to down a good portion of it while I was in the laundry room. I was not very happy as I had spent the entire evening baking and had to start all over with the apple pie. I wonder which pie she preferred...apple or pumpkin??
