Ty arrived in the family before I did. I remember him mostly through photos and
family stories.
Ty was from Tyrone, Texas, where in the 50's Airedales were used to hunt
mountain lion.
When I was born, my parents were in the middle of constructing a new house.
While construction was going on, the family lived in a small trailer. My two
brothers slept in bunk beds at the end of the trailer. My parents would lift
the "dining room" table to unfold their bed. Ty, the Airedale, slept stretched
out down the middle of the hall between the boys' bedroom and my parents. I
slept in the kitchen sink!!
Ty was faithful companion to my mother and brothers as they explored the
deserts around Tucson. In order to give Ty enough exercise, my mother used to
drive up and down dirt roads with Ty jogging beside the car (shudder)!
Actually, my 6-year-old brother drove the car while sitting in my mother's lap
(double shudder)!
