Rabbits Can Swim!

By Lydia Ross

Alice and I went on a training session this morning. Andy had to stay home, cuz it is too hot to wait in the car. When we were done, I called my 9yr old nephew to wish him a happy birthday. He wanted me to come by on my way home and see how long he can hold his breath under water and have a piece of his cake. Ok sure, but I have Alice with me. That is fine. They have a rescued black lab named Scout that is a ball hound so they get along fine. Mike, his Dad is putting on a new deck and is just about done and I wanted to see it.

I get there, let Alice out in the yard and off she runs with Scout and the kids. My sister and I are talking about the deck and Mike is showing me what is next.....suddenly SCREAMS ring out from the kids. A-L-I-C-E and more screaming.Alice is "baying".....my sister and I turn and dash towards the kids yelling WHAT??? just as something goes flying through the air and lands in the pool (they have one of those HUGE above ground pools). What the H*LL was that? Alice is flying through the air after it, absolutely WILD and on the hunt.....My sister tells the kids to stop screaming and throwing balls in the pool cuz the dogs are NOT allowed in the pool. My 6-year-old nephew is sobbing.....oh my baby Buttercup, Alice killed her and is pointing to the pool. Oh my gawd! I forgot in the summer they leave their rabbit out loose during the day.

We dash to the pool and there is Buttercup doing the "crawl stroke" around in circles. My 9yr old nephew is absolutely dying laughing and then it became contagious and we ALL started cracking up. Alice is still trying to figure out where her "catch" went, that prey drive was in high gear!!!.....I am happy to report that Buttercup is alive and well. Perhaps slightly "aire-mouthed, tossed, shaken, and wet" but ALIVE!!!!! She is now dried off, back in her A-frame condo with a BIG carrot and Alice is PO'd that she has been banned from the area. So she chose a spot 5 ft away to lie down and watch from.....too much like "hunting and stalking" for my liking so she was sent further away and to "leave it".

We finally sat down to cake and ice cream....My nephew thought it was the wildest event EVER and made his whole day!

Egads.........

Lydia(sooooo happy Buttercup is ALIVE and Alice couldn't get in the pool)
Alice(mmm tasty, furry, I shook too hard, DARN!)
Andy(hey! what is that smell on you? I never get that kind of fun!)
Seattle

As you can see from these photos, Alice is always ready to pounce. She believes that if she stares at something hard enough, she can force it to run so she can chase it down.

Alice does have her gentler side. Here she and Andy enjoy
a little snuggling with a couple of their favorite upright kids.
