My First Airedale

"Oreo"

Wanda Purvis

Oreo
My first Airedale was Oreo. He is the dale that stole my heart, and I have been head over heels in love with Airedales since. I now have two more but not like my Oreo. He is the most gentle fun-loving dog on the face of the earth. When we first got him he would bounce around like he had springs in his bones. I loved to watch him. When he was a pup he would come running full tilt to the door and usually miss the step; crash down on his face. He did that twice and from then on I would always stand in the doorway so he couldn't run in and hurt himself.

He loved and still loves life. When we took him for walks out in the forest he would jump around more then the fish did. He would also love to put his head right under the water to pick up a rock. First he would loosen up the rock with his paw and then he would dive for it. I was always so scared that he would get hurt or break a tooth or something. But he never did.

I was absolutely awful at grooming when I first started. But he put up with me the whole time and still likes to be groomed. Especially now that I know how to make him look good. HaHah! I have a picture of my very first time ever grooming him and it will forever be hidden away so no one can see it.

I had heard that an Airedale is what ever kind of dog you wanted it to be. Well that is the truth. I have always loved horses and the way they throw their heads around and rub their heads on you to show how much they love you. Well when I found Oreo doing it, I was in my glory. He was brave but gentle. He loved to get into things but never got into anything that could hurt him or upset me. I would take him for a walk around town and he would hold his head so high as if to say hey, the world is mine. People would always stop and want to pat him and he would never jump up on anyone. He is the most mannered dog when in public. He is truly everything I ever wanted in a dog and so much more.
