For Breeders -- Developing High Achievers
In many animal-breeding programs the entire process of selection and management is founded on the belief that performance is inherited. However, there is credible evidence that a large percentage of performance is actually controlled by other influences, such as training, management and nutrition. Researchers have studied this phenomena and have looked for new ways to stimulate individuals in order to improve their natural abilities. Some of the methods discovered have produced life long lasting effects. Today, many of the differences between individuals can now be explained by the use of early stimulation methods.

Pet Resume
Make a resume for your pet to present to landlords. For example, if your pet is quiet, calm and/or less active, point that out. If you have an active dog, explain how you fulfill his/her exercise requirements. In addition to your pet's resume, you may also want to attach reference letters from current and previous landlords and/or neighbors; certificates of completion of obedience/training classes; references from your pet's trainer or groomer; a health certificate from your vet; and if your pet is cute, a picture.

by Betsy Polglase , MA

If you suffered a stroke, were in a serious auto accident, or in some other major crisis which took you from your home—perhaps permanently—who would care for your [Airedales]? The Relationship Between Animal Abuse and Child Abuse
Nearly all children go through a stage of "innocent" cruelty during which they may harm insects or other small animals in the process of exploring their world. Most children, however, with guidance from parents and teachers, develop empathy for the pain animals can suffer. Some, however, become locked into a lifetime pattern of cruelty. What We Can Do
