My name is Maggie. That is the only name I remember being called. I think I am about 6 or 7 years old.
You see, I know little or nothing about my puppy days. In fact, from what I have heard,
I would rather not know about them.
I have overheard people talking about me and they tell each other
how when I was very young, I had a wire or chain around my neck because there is a scar on my
neck and no fur grows there. They go on to say that the man who had me apparently did not
love me because he took me to a shelter and told them he was going on a few days trip and
would be back for me. The man did not tell the truth because he gave false information
about himself, his address and I guess about me too. The fact that he never came back
for me proves that he never loved me at all.
Fortunately, two wonderful people came to the shelter, found
me and took me home. I shudder to think what would have happened to me if MOM and DAD
had not rescued me from my doomsday. Life with Mom and Dad was wonderful. There were
other children in the house, but we all got along just fine. There were even some human
children in the house, but they were OK too. We all went on camping trips into the high
mountains where it would get very cold at night. I even had my very own overcoat that I
wore to keep me warm at night. Life just could not be any better -- then came the bad news.
Mom and Dad were being transferred to Germany and I could not go with them. I didn't know
what to think. Was I going back to the shelter? Was I facing my doomsday now? What was
going to happen to me? Mom and Dad got in touch with the Airedale Rescue in Tucson because
that is what I am. I am an Airedale.
Evelyn and Mac were also in touch with the Airedale Rescue in Tucson.
There was a lovely young lady named Sidney who brought Mom and Dad, Evelyn and Mac
together and arranged a meeting. After a lot of talk over the telephone, Mom drove me
to Arizona where they met for lunch. I was not invited to the lunch because I suppose the
folks had a lot of talking to do about me and they didn't want me to hear all the good things
Mom and Dad had to say about me. Be that as it may, I was taken out of Mom's car and I jumped
into Mac's stationwagon. I don't think there was much said in the way of good-byes because I
think they were all said in Las Vegas before we left for Arizona.
I have been living with Evelyn and Mac for over a year now,
and life is good again. I do think about Mom and Dad and thank them for having saved me
and for seeing to it that I got into another good home. I am also so thankful for the
Airedale Rescue Committee in Tucson for their part in bringing me and my ADOPTIVE PARENTS
together. I hope that other Airedales will be as fortunate as I have been. Don't be afraid
o adopt an older pet because we have just as much to offer as a puppy. Maybe even more.

5/11/06 Update
Above is a photo of Maggie, now age 11, in her favorite position. Have you ever known an Airedale who likes to
hold your thumb when you rub her belly? We truly have been privileged people to have this perfect friend come
into our lives.

Maggie and Evelyn lost their best friend, Mac, in 2005, but find comfort in each other's company.
