My parents had always told me that when we could we would get a puppy. One day, when I was about 12 years old, I remember hearing my Mom on the phone talking to someone about a puppy. I was so excited and remember finding the notes she had keep during the phone conversation....the notes said things like "very sweet" "a bundle of joy" "black and tan" "very frisky".....that got me even more excited!

We lived in Alaska at the time and my parents told us we would be going to meet our new puppy at the local mall. Turns out he was being flown in on an Alaskan float plane and they had chosen this mall to meet us. There were two Airedale puppies that we could choose from. Everyone in my family was playing with the one - who was acting very nice and polite - meanwhile, I was running very happily through the mall chasing the other! He was tumbling about and when I finally caught him I decided that he was going to be our new puppy! It took a little bit of convincing but soon we had him in our car on the way home!! We named him Casey and he became the joy of all our lives.

My favorite memories of Casey are the times when we would dress him up in our different outfits. He lived in a household of 4 girls - either teens or pre-teens - and we were determined to make him our best friend. He wore our marching band hats (very tall with an even taller plume!), berets, cowboy hats, sunglasses, t-shirts, uniforms, bike helmets, pretty much any hat we could find! We also loved to put him up on the top bunk of our bunkbeds and read him stories and tell him all about our day. We loved him so much and he loved us too. He fit right in with "the girls" and there wasn't a day that went by that we didn't all love and cuddle with Casey.

When Casey left us we got Captain - couldn't really wait too long because of the pain of not having Casey. Captain was ever bit the sweet boy that Casey was! When I left home my first dog was Dunbar (now 9 years) and I also now have Sabrina (10 months). My parents have Ranger (4 years) and he is a sweetie. All Airedales!!

Thank you for the chance to share my memories of Casey!
